This year the National Edible Oil Distributors Association (NEODA) will be holding an Open Day on Thursday 16th May 2013 entitled “Protecting and Promoting your Business”. The Open Day will be held at the prestigious Tallow Chandlers Hall in London. The event is designed to bring key industry buyers and decision makers up the speed with the latest developments and changes both within NEODA and the edible fats and oils industry. HOW CAN YOU BE SURE IT IS WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN?

With growing concerns within the food industry regarding provenance and food safety it is reassuring to know that within the edible oils and fats industry, NEODA has been monitoring oil products for years.  For over 60 years, NEODA has been raising standards across the edible oil packing and distributive trade from refiners through to packers and distributors and other related activities within the edible oil trade.  NEODA provides a forum for open discussion with all parties concerned to work together to protect and promote the production and sale of high quality edible oils and fats sold within the UK.

NEODA’s central principle is adherence to the Guarantee of Confidence Scheme which requires that all packs of edible oil sold and distributed by members conform to all necessary requirements concerning product contents, labelling and pack sizes.  Packs which conform are allowed to carry the Association’s Logo.

NEODA regularly carries out a programme of monitoring and analysing packs of edible oils and fats (from both members and non members) to ensure that customers and consumers are not being misled as to the nature or quality of oils being sold.  Misleading or illegal packs are followed up, often with Trading Standards Authorities and, on occasions, resulting in the prosecution and conviction of offenders.

NEODA Chairman, Stephen Bickmore said “as an association we strive to not only create a level playing field for all our members but to ensure honesty and transparency to the consumers”.
